Flights cancelled due to extreme cold in the US
More than 2500 flights were cancelled in the Midwest, US due to extreme cold on January the 30th. Especially O’Hare was affected by this.
O’Hare Airport in Chicago needed to cancel 1,500 flights, as well as 320 in Chicago Midway International Airport.
In Northeast Illinois temperatures were being recorded of -46 C , which is dangerously cold. United Airlines cancelled 80% of their flights at O’Hare on January the 30th, American Airlines about 675 flights. Southwest Airlines needed to cancel 600 flights and Delta Air Lines about 80 flights.
The damage is huge and for the employees it’s very hard work removing snow. Delta and United say they are letting their employees to take extra brakes to warm up inside.
